About Homer, The Home Depot Official Custom Mascot

Homer D Poe aka Homer from Home Depot is the company’s official mascot. He was created over thirty years ago and remains a friendly and helpful presence at the company. Seen at company events, on social media posts, in newspapers, and in other media outlets, the DIY character leads a high-profile existence with many costume changes. Whether he’s putting on a swimsuit for summer or a werewolf costume for Halloween, Homer from Home Depot has been featured in a variety of ways over the past three decades.
The Home Depot began in 1978 when Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank, laid-off home improvement executives, envisioned a DIY superstore. Partnering with others, they opened the first stores in Atlanta in 1979. Their concept was huge stores with everything from lumber to lightbulbs, with knowledgeable staff to assist. The company boomed, becoming the top US home improvement retailer by 1989. They expanded into Canada in 1994 and continued to innovate with workshops and a focus on customer service.
